I mentioned in the website that I had manned Sourdough LO which is at the south end of Ross Lake on 2 occasions before I did Desolation. Even before I worked Sourdough — I hiked up there one day and found to my surprise that the cab was being reconstructed…..it simply had too much accumulated snow damage over the preceding years. The carpenters were tented nearby and spend their days on th construction using some supplies delivered by helicopter. I believe it took them all summer. I took a couple of pictures that day:
NPS cables up ( circumferentially ) Sourdough these days and so the weight of the snowpack doesn’t damage it as much….it has not needed reconstruction since that time back in the 1990s……
