About 1998 or so I climbed Desolation Peak for the first time.  My friend Steve Evans and I rented a boat from Ross Resort, drove it up to the trailhead and then climbed to the top.  There we found Marie ( the lookout ), had a short visit with her, ate our lunch and hiked back down.  Glad to see the boat still tied to the Desolation dock ( not stolen nor drifted off stranding us )—- we motored back down the lake thankful there wasn’t much fetch that day  ( somedays the swells in the late afternoon are 2 -3 foot high ).  Here is a shot of me celebrating with a Starbucks Frappuccino safely back at the Resort.  That was 23 years ago now.  Yahoo !
