That 120 foot long manuscript of On the Road by Jack was recently sold auction for $ 12,135,00 to a singer — Zach Bryan. It sounds as if he plans to create a museum
in Kerouac’s hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts which would be wonderful. If you go to the Resources chapter in this very website — you will see a picture of the manuscript
that I took some years back in the San Francisco Public Library. Amazingly I had no idea it was on display — I was simply going down to the basement looking for a restroom.
There is an art gallery down there and to my astonishment —- there it was ! As far as I can tell —the $12 million + is the highest price ever paid for an American author’s manuscript.
In my imagination — it would be fun to be sitting up there in the LO with Jack— mentioning to him that someday, long after he is gone–one of his works would sell for millions of $$$ when
he spent much of his life —-> broke. And in return I can envision him saying —-” I already have a million dollar view right here.” Indeed !!!! : )
